Tekla Global BIM Awards is a biennial event that celebrates the achievements of Tekla users in the Building & Construction Industry. The student category highlights the talents of civil engineering, structural engineering, and construction management students worldwide. 

Come and join the competition, showcasing your Tekla and BIM skills amongst the most iconic projects in the industry.

 

Eligibility of participation

The competition is open to students worldwide as long as you are a fulltime enrolled student in an educational institute. There is no age limit. The projects may be carried out individually or as a team of maximum 5 members.

Note: If you are entering via a school course and would like to help your professor receive a grant of Tekla Structures for the School’s lab computers please include School Name, Course & Professor name on the entry form.

During the spring, there are regional Tekla Student BIM Awards competitions in several countries or areas:

If your country or area is not listed above, you can submit your entry here on Tekla Campus. The entry deadline for Tekla Campus entries is 30 June 2020.

GLOBAL STUDENT BIM AWARDS

Winners from the listed local competitions will automatically enter into the 2020 Tekla Global Student BIM Award shortlist

For those from the region without a local competition entering via Tekla Campus, a winner will be selected to the 2020 Tekla Global Student BIM Award shortlist

The winner of the Global Competition will be selected among the 2020 Tekla Global Student BIM Award shortlist.

Criteria of participation

The project submitted to the competition is qualified as long as it is modeled using Tekla Structures educational configuration partially or for the whole project.

EXAMPLES OF APPROPRIATE USAGE OF TEKLA SOFTWARE INCLUDE:

  1. The foundation was modeled/detailed using Tekla Structures
  2. The Frame was modeled/detailed using Tekla Structures
  3. The façade was modeled/detailed using Tekla Structures
  4. The drawings were created using Tekla Structures
  5. Bills of material were created using Tekla Structures
  6. Import/Export functionalities were used in Tekla Structures

SHORTLIST

All shortlisted candidates in the 2020 Tekla Global Student BIM Awards will receive an electronic award certificate. 

THE WINNERS OF THE 2020 TEKLA GLOBAL STUDENT BIM AWARD WILL RECEIVE:

  • A framed award certificate for the project participants
  • Amazon gift card of EUR 500 for the whole team
  • Publicity: winner announcement in international press release, global online publicity, an interview helping you get noticed and to use as reference
  • Students entering on behalf of school course will also benefit their school with:
    • A mention of the school in the press release announcing the winners and global online publicity.
    • One year free subscription of Tekla Educational Bundle to the winners’ school.

Instructions of project submission:

1. PROJECT MATERIAL PACKAGE

  • The .DB1 file and profile database file of the Tekla model (model folder).
  • Model snapshots. At least 3 image files with minimum 1000 pixels in width/height, e. g. PNG format, featuring the whole model and relevant details are recommended to be snapped).
  • Drawings of the projects (2-3 PDF files, at least 1 general layout drawing and 1 detailed shop drawing).
  • Images. At least one image file with minimum 1000 pixels in width/height demonstrating artist's/architect's impressions of the project. Remember that good images can have a strong impact on your success in the competition!
  • IF you have done any system modifications please submit also:
    • Profile database (profdb.BIN)
    • Material database (matdb.BIN)
    • Bolt database (screwdb.DB)
    • Bolt assembly database (assdb.DB)
    • Rebar database (rebar_database.INP)
    • Parametric profiles (profitab.INP)

It’s recommended to archive all the aforementioned files to a .zip file when submitting.

2. PREPARE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION FOR THE SUBMISSION.

  • Project member personal information, such as the name, e-mail.
  • Information of your enrolled educational institution.
  • Project presentation showing your project ideas, background, project statistics, what you have learned in the project etc..
  • Project material package sharing link. You may choose any cloud or file sharing service as you wish as the sharing link.
  • Your motivation for participating in the competition.

Judging Criteria

You don’t have to be a BIM wizard quite yet. Models are judged based on the versatility of the model: How impressive the model is, how well it is modeled, what different tools have been used to create the model.

The jury will use the following breakdown to judge your entry.

  • Project Design 
  • Complexity of the Model 
  • Level of Development (LOD)  
  •  Use of the Model 
    • Examples displayed in drawings
    • Examples displayed in Bill of Materials
    • How was BIM used in the Model? 
      • Workflow on the project demonstrated
  • Submission (choice of images, project presentation) 
  • Included during submission and must include 
    • Project Brief & link to student studies
    • Challenges faced and what was overcome
    • Drawings
    • Images

Jury
