On 20-22 April the 3’rd edition of Nationwide Student Building Conference - BUDMIKA 2016 took place, organized by the students’ research circles of: civil engineering, environmental engineering and architecture from Poznan University of Technology. It was the largest students’ building conference in Poland, in which participants represented technical universities across the country. The topics raised during the students’ presentations from 1’st, 2’nd and 3’rd degree of study included problems connected with building industry.

On the second day of conference the “BIM panel” took place, focusing on modern technologies and innovative ways for industry to work together.  The panel discussion was guided by representatives of Construsoft Polska. Throughout the day, students learned about the possibilities of Building Information Modeling technology.  With product demonstrations of Trimble’s software: Tekla Structures and SketchUp, students gained practical knowledge of the workflow between engineering and architecture offices.

Amazon Company logistic centers, which were built in Poland, were used to present BIM in practice.  The students also received hands-on demonstrations for how to utilize 3D laser scanning – an innovative method for collecting spatial data, then walked through coordination exercises of all trades in the construction project using SMART Board interactive display and the Tekla BIMsight software.
