"Error when connecting to the license server. Contact your system administrator or try another server."
This error message appears, because information on your Tekla Structures student license isn't passed on correctly. This could happen for a number of reasons. To troubleshoot, please do the following:
- Check your internet connection to see that the connection available when you are logging in.
- Check your proxy settings. They may prevent the transactions between your Tekla Structures student license and the online license server.
- Ensure that you have a valid (not out-of-date) Tekla Structures student license. To check your license, log in to the Tekla Campus website, and see if there is a yellow warning message on the top of the page that tells you that your license is about to expire. If this is the case, click the link in the message to renew your license.
Also, I've found that I have to turn my internet off until Tekla has started.
help mee
Hi,
Yesterday, I installed the software of Tekla Structures Learning and there is no problem to use. I just want to know when it is the expire date with my account.
Could I be able to use this software for 4month?
Dear Tekla Admin,
My 4 month student license period of Tekla Structures Learning is over, I wonder if I may apply for a license renewal?
Thank you, Kata Ficker

Thanks for reporting this. I checked your Tekla Structures Learning license, and you should now be able to run the software.
Tekla works now. Thanks!
The renewal pop up in Tekla is saying I have 6 days remaining. I logged into campus.tekla.com but it did not show the box saying I need to renew in order to fill in the renewal form.
Thanks.
Hello Jeff, please log out from campus.tekla.com and then log back in. You should see the renewal link then. If this does not work, please contact the Tekla Campus team using this form.

Hi Tamás,
I had a look at your Tekla Structures Learning license, and it checked out ok - so in that sense, things should be working. The most common reasons for this error message are lack of internet connection at the time of the login and proxy settings that prevent the transactions between the computer and the license server. Please see this discussion forum topic for more information: https://campus.tekla.com/forum/discussion-forum/what-do-if-%E2%80%9Cerror-when-connecting-license-server%E2%80%9D-message-appears
I got the same problem, I registered 2 weeks ago, installed Tekla, and when I start to run the software this error message appears.
I connected to the internet by a proxy server, I already set https:\\account.tekla.com on the whitelist.
What should i do?
Thank you
Hi Elias,
I checked your Tekla Structures Learning license, and it is valid, so in that sense everything should be ok. Since you already checked your proxy settings, that shouldn't be a problem either.
I will have our experts look if they can find something that might be causing this problem with your account. Thank you for reporting this and sorry for the inconvenience!
Elias, could you try connecting to the internet directly without the proxy server to see if you are able to run the software then?
Yesterday I downloaded and installed TEKLA STRUCTURES LEARNING.
When Tekla start, I get the message
"Error when connecting to the license server. Contact your system administrator or try another server."
What should I do? (recommendations of the first posts are made)
Hello Alla,
I checked your account, and your license to Tekla Structures Learning was OK so that should not be causing the problem.
Could you please check that in your proxy settings traffic is allowed to/from the domain of the license server, which is https://account.tekla.com/? You could also try connecting to the internet directly without the proxy server to see if you are able to run the software then?
I'm sorry. I reported the wrong information. Microsoft Forefront refused connection. Now everything is fixed. My Tekla Structures Learning is work.
Thank you for your operative answer.
Hi there, thought I may aswell update this thread just. I got the can't connect to server message (my internet was down). Tried again later, now Tekla won't open at all. I get the very first picture, but when it goes away nothing else appears and it doesn't open. Anyone able to help?
Hello Andrew,
I checked your Tekla Structures Learning license, and it should be working correctly. Since you do not get an error message, your problem might be similar to the one described here. If this does not help and the problem persists, please contact the Tekla Campus team by using the Feedback form.
Hello Admin,
I have a similar problem. My Tekla used to work fine but today it showed a license error message and I have not been able to use it since. I get the very first picture, but when it goes away nothing else appears and it doesn't open. Could you check my license to see if there is any problem?

Hi Ashrant
I checked your license, it's valid and should work normally. If you cannot run Tekla Structures, I recommend you to do following:
1. Uninstall Tekla Structures learning edition and install it again.
2. Check if some other software prevents Tekla Structures from working correctly. Instructions here.

Hello Nisha,
I checked your Tekla Structures Learning license and it is valid. The most common reasons for this error message are lack of internet connection at the time of the login.
Have your proxy settings changed lately? Please check that traffic is allowed to/from the domain of the license server, which is https://account.tekla.com/. You could also try connecting to the internet directly without the proxy server to see if you are able to run the software then.
Thank you for reporting this and sorry for the inconvenience! If the problem persists, let me know.
Hi,
I downloaded and installed Tekla in October and have been using it fine until I got a licence message in Tekla today- can't remember what it said - which disabled all the buttons and I was unable to do anything. I closed Tekla and tried to re-open and it wouldn't open. The Tekla Structures start up image appears but then disappears. I've tried uninstalling and re installing the software and I'm still unable to open Tekla. Could you please help me with my issue?
Hi Steven, I checked your Tekla Structures Learning license, and it should be working correctly. Have you installed new software or Windows updates lately? You could reinstall and start Tekla Structures Learning in the administrator mode. If the problem persists, please contact the Tekla Campus team by using the Feedback form.
Hi admin,
I reinstalled and tried running it as administrator as you asked, but I still get the same thing. There was a 'critical update' by windows on 23/11/14. I have contacted Tekla Campus team about it as well now
Hello there, I have the same license problem as other users. I think my 4 moths are gone and i cant find license renewal link. Can you help me with my problem please?
Hello Daniel, I checked your license and it is valid now. Please try running Tekla Structures Learning again.
Thank you so much, It's working now. I was checking my firewall ports and everything with no results for about week and you solved it in a few hours, really helpful! Nice support. I have one note: maybe Tekla should send emails about license expiration with link for renewal because I didn't find any alert about license expiration at my profile page.
Hello, It's me again. It's not working again. It worked only first run and then again showed up alert with license server.
Hi Daniel,
we are sorry for the inconvenience. Your license is valid so this is a different issue. Could you send a screen capture of the error message to campus@tekla.com?
Hey! I just downloaded the Student version of Tekla Strucures on my new computer. The installation goes according to all the instructions given in the download page. When I try to open it from the shortcut on my desktop, nothing happens. The same thing when I try it straight from the application folder... Where do you think the problem is? Is my computer/Graphics processer etc. just incompatible with the software? I am using Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro.
Hello Ria,
I checked your license, and it should be working correctly. For information on hardware requirements, see the Technical Product Sheet.
You can also check if some other software prevents Tekla Structures from working correctly. Instructions here.
If this does not help and the problem persists, please contact the Tekla Campus team by using the Feedback form.
Please help me to find the server address.
It appears that you have downloaded the commercial version of Tekla Structures 20.0 from the Tekla Downloads service (https://dowloads.tekla.com) instead of the free Tekla Structures Learning edition from the Tekla Campus service (https://campus.tekla.com).
You cannot use the version you have downloaded and installed unless you are a paying Trimble customer. Instead, you should download + install the software from the page https://campus.tekla.com/download.
